Have I mentioned that my husband is a saint? I don’t know how he does it, but quite frequently he leaves a clean and organized home in the morning, and comes home to find I’ve torn down a wall. It doesn’t even phase him anymore. Yesterday he left our house looking like this:
And came home to this:
This weekend Jason made some serious headway on the floors in our guest room. He’s doing an awesome job, especially considering this is the first time he’s installed nail down hardwood. It’s really tough work and the last thing anyone wants to get into after coming home from eight hours at the office, but he’s chipping away at it. I was trying to clean up the sawdust and wood scraps yesterday when I realized that this may be my one opportunity to have the room clear of furniture, so I spontaneously decided to paint our shutters. My neighbors are probably starting to seriously question my sanity, after watching me hanging halfway out of the upstairs windows, drilling the shutters off of our house.
We plan on having new siding installed in a couple years, at which point we will nix the shutters and have trim installed around the windows. For now, though, the vinyl shutters are going to stay, so I chose to paint them for a temporary solution. The paint was faded and I don’t love the black on white siding, so I bought a taupe-y green shade of spray paint to tone them down and hopefully make them fade into the background. The color is Fossil by Rust-o-leum. I’ll add a tutorial tomorrow when I’m done, but here’s a sneak peak:
The shutter on the right is wet from cleaning, which is why it looks so shiny, but if you look at the two still hanging on the wall, you can see how faded the paint is. Living near the water, I like using bright, sea-tones. I definitely think the new color is an improvement, but we’ll know for sure once these things are hanging back up.
As summer is drawing to a close I’m trying to work on curb appeal, hence the newly painted porch and now shutters. Anyone else trying to spruce up their exterior? I’d love to see what other people are doing. Curb appeal is by far the hardest thing for me to work on, I’m in no way creative in that area, so if you have any advice or inspiration to share, please do!
