Decorating Good News and Sweater Pillows November 6, 2013

I’m on cloud nine tonight.  Last week’s sonogram had some abnormal findings, so today we went to the perinatologist for an extra long, high resolution ultrasound.  Among other things, there was a cyst in the baby’s brain.  Seriously, how scary does that sound?  We actually arrived to the appointment to find that we were so anxious we had shown up a full day early.  They were nice enough to squeeze us in, though.  This perinatologist only sees high risk pregnancies, so these results are a little skewed, but he said he finds these cysts on 25% of women at this stage and they’re almost always benign.  Luckily, we were able to breathe a huge sigh of relief at the end.  We still have to double up on appointments, but the baby didn’t have any other markers that would indicate the cyst is related to bigger issues and the doctor assured us that our daughter is perfectly healthy.  I think Grant is accurately describing how I feel right now:

Which is to say, awesome.  The worst part of being a parent is the worrying.  It starts the minute you find out you’re pregnant and, as far as I can tell, continues for the rest of your life.    Jason surprised me by coming home with a bottle of the champagne usually reserved for birthdays and anniversaries, and some Ben and Jerry’s for me.  We really hadn’t had a chance to be excited after finding out it was a girl, so we’re finally getting to celebrate.  And relax:

We also got some new pillows to go with the new rug I found 70% off at Target yesterday.  I felt like things were looking a little frantic between the chevron pattern and all the colors on the sofa:

J liked the feel of the chunky wool on his feet, though, so we went to Pottery Barn and spent twice as much on pillow covers as the rug itself:

I like the wintery sweater patterns, and although it’s hard to see the sequins and beading in a photo, they’re actually seasonally festive.  Ultimately, I achieved what I was going for and toned down the sofa enough to make the room more cohesive.

So, to recap, here’s the before:

That rug is now under our dining table to make the chairs stop scratching up our hardwoods.  And this is the new view of the living room:

I still have to work on window treatments.  J is getting me some Dwell Studio fabric for Christmas.  Fabric.com sells it for 1/3 the price of the website.  I’m thinking this would look nice:

I’ll probably make a Photoshop version first to make sure the pattern isn’t too much, but the colors work.  Well, time to relax and enjoy our fluffy pillows.  And my Half Baked.
