Uncategorized Twilight Tour August 15, 2013

I know I said I was going to do Part II of my PicMonkey Art Tutorial today, but I’m going to save that for tomorrow. Last night our sweet neighbor baby-sat Grant so we could have a date night, a rarity for us. I’ve been wanting to take a Twilight Trolley Tour of DC ever since our friends who were visiting from California raved about it last spring, and Jason surprised me with tickets.  We totally lucked out with the perfect weather and I got some awesome photos of the monuments, which are backlit at night. If you live in the DC area or ever visit, I would highly recommend this tour. As locals we miss out on some of the great tourist opportunities, so this was a real treat.

It started out driving around the Capital building and some of the other standard sites. until dark.  Then we headed to the Roosevelt Memorial.  This was by far my favorite part.  It’s filled with water features and incredible quotes by FDR.

The new MLK Memorial is right next to the FDR, so we walked along the Watershed to take a peak, which has some gorgeous views of the Jefferson Memorial and National Monument (that is still under renovation after the earthquake three years ago).  It’s a great spot for photos at night, with the reflection of the monument on the water.  You can see one of the presidential helicopters coming in for a landing in the pic below:

The MLK memorial isn’t complete yet, so most of it is covered in tarps, but they had a pretty incredible wall of quotes:

Then we headed to Virginia to see the Iwo Jima Memorial, which is awesome, but I was exhausted and didn’t get out to take any pictures.  On the way we drove by the Kennedy Center:

Our last stop was the Lincoln Memorial, it’s right next to the Vietnam Memorial, but we skipped that and hung out by Old Abe for our thirty minutes off the trolley.

I didn’t include many close ups because there was a bunch of scaffolding around the statue.

It was an awesome tour, definitely worth the $35 tickets.  If you’re looking for a romantic night out, this was an amazing alternative to dinner and a movie.
I’ll be back to the house stuff tomorrow with a tutorial for Subway Wall Art:
